Are you staying at home?  If not, you should be, at least as much as possible.  I know that I’m doing my best to continue working, by previewing homes for people, armed with hand sanitizer and a mask if needed.  This is a trying time for all of us, with a lot of uncertainty.
I’m also doing my best to answer questions as they come up for my clients and others regarding the crisis at hand. And one thing that just came up for me is – How will the measures that everyone is taking to separate themselves from each other going to affect the closings coming up in the next few weeks?
Well I’ve reached out to more than one title company, and it appears the general consensus is this:
It appears the only people allowed in the office for the closing are those that are required to sign. Makes sense.  Not all offices are doing this, but I recommend this practice to all agents, brokers and family members that had intended to be at a closing in the near future until we have more information about this crisis.  It’s a technical age, you can Facetime your mom when you’re done.
Also, if you or any person in your family has travelled internationally within the last 14 days or has exhibited symptoms of acute respiratory distress or fever, you need to let your title company know immediately to determine if there is a need to reschedule.
If you’re interested in learning more about the CDC’s suggestions and guidelines, go to  There you will find the most current, relevant releases of information regarding the crisis we’re in.
If you want to know more about what your specific title company is practicing in their office, contact them now or have your agent contact them, if they haven’t reached out to you yet.  You want to know as much as you can leading up to your closing.
One more thing – social distancing does not mean, don’t talk to people.  Call your friends and family to check in. Get on an instant messenger and social media and stay in touch.  The news is going to scare the hell out of all of us. It always does. But this is a social problem as much as any, and as long as we take the needed responsibility for our own actions, and limit our contact with others, as we know we should do, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Be well, stay in touch, and I’ll see you next week.
